Emile Deedes-Vincke (b. 1999) immigrated with his family to Canada in 2003 and grew up in North Vancouver, British Columbia. He started composing in 2017 and graduated with a Diploma in Music from Capilano University in 2022. Emile was composer-in-residence for Laudate Singers for their 24th and 25th seasons and he has won the Vancouver Chamber Choir’s Young Composer Competition for his piece “Where the Earth is Quiet” in 2022. Throughout that time, he has been a part of many ensembles including the Vancouver Youth Choir, the Intertidal Choral Ensemble, the MyVoice program with Chor Leoni, Capilano University Singers and Festival Chorus, the guest quartet with Musica Intima, and Laudate Singers.
More recently Emile has successfully battled cancer (in remission as of July 4th, 2024) after his first diagnosis in 2021, and relapse in 2023. Throughout that time, music and composition have been essential outlets and the choirs have offered a huge amount of community support. Emile is continuing to write and sing, with his choral works being sung internationally, his latest piece “The Wind” having been premiered by the Intertidal Choral Ensemble February 2025, and his work “I Sit Before Flowers” performed at the Jeju International Choral Festival in South Korea February 2025 by the Vancouver Youth Choir. Especially exciting - Emile's first publication, "Ignite", was recently performed as part of the opening ceremony for the Canada Games in Newfoundland and Labrador Summer 2025 by the Shallaway Youth Choir.
